Overview

Situated in the bustling enclave of Taman Mount Austin, 叫我雲吞面 Jiao Wo Wan Tan Me offers a modern take on a beloved local staple: wanton noodles. This restaurant caters to those seeking comfort food with a personalized twist, presenting an array of noodle types—from springy mee pok to handmade varieties—paired with diverse soup and sauce options including classic black, zesty tomato, aromatic mala, and light fish broth. The versatility invites diners to craft their perfect bowl, appealing to both traditionalists and adventurous eaters.

The highlight here is undoubtedly the noodle experience. Each strand is cooked with care, maintaining an al dente texture and generously coated in freshly fried pork lard that adds a rich, savory depth. The wantons themselves come in various styles—boiled dumplings bursting with fresh pork and radish fillings, as well as crisp fried versions that strike a balance between lightness and flavor. While opinions vary, many patrons appreciate the generous portions and the satisfying harmony between noodle and topping.

Ambiance-wise, the air-conditioned space is clean and comfortable, offering respite from the tropical humidity typical of Johor Bahru. Facilities such as well-maintained restrooms cater to customers seeking a relaxed dining environment. Service is attentive and knowledgeable, with staff guiding diners through the customizable menu thoughtfully.

Beyond noodles, the drink selection stands out with creative healthy blends like fresh jasmine milk tea and unique fruit-infused options, complementing the meal with refreshing or soothing notes. This attention to thoughtful beverage curation enhances the overall dining experience.

Ideal for casual meals with friends or family, the restaurant strikes a balance between a commercialized chain and a neighborhood gem, making it well-suited for locals and visitors craving a quality bowl of wanton noodles with a modern approach. While some find certain flavor elements like the mala sauce polarizing, the overall experience leans on comfort, customization, and consistency.

In summary, Jiao Wo Wan Tan Me - Taman Mount Austin offers a lively reinterpretation of a classic dish in a welcoming setting. Its strength lies in choice and portion, supported by a pleasant atmosphere and friendly service, making it a noteworthy stop for wanton noodle enthusiasts exploring Johor Bahru’s culinary landscape.

Wanton mee chain so it's more commercialized and price is on the higher side. Very customisable can choose from 5 types of noodles (wanton mee, mee pok, handmade noodles, pan mee, kway teow), 5 types of sauces/base (white, black, tomato, mala sauce, sole fish soup, mala soup). Portion sizes are quite big to make up for the higher prices. Place is air-conditioned and has toilets.

Came here cause of the reviews, was craving for wanton noodles and this decided to give this brand a try. Food wise it was decent, just slightly above average taste wise. We ordered their signature noodles with black sauce. The one with deep fried wantons and dumplings together with a side soup and 2 boiled wantons. Honestly, the deep fried stuff tasted just average whilst the boiled wantons were tastier. Noodles were springy, however the black sauce was normal and we even found it slightly lacking in taste. It just wasn’t very very tasty. Dry mala wantons were great, ordered it cause the wife wanted, but mala just doesn’t blend well with the traditional taste of wanton mee. Couldn’t eat it together and had to wash down mala with my drink first before tasting my noodles again. Dumpling soup was great, their dumplings are relatively unique but taste wise again it falls short of the oomph factor. Just slightly above average taste wise. Oh, I would have to give kudos to their pork lard though. It tasted like it was freshly fried to order. However, I was wondering why would you omit something that would somehow elevate your noodle dish? Cause it was only presented when I asked about it. The drink was superb, but overall I can only give 3.5 stars for food. Service was great, the crew came to take our orders and did a great job recommending the menu. Atmosphere, when I just came in, there was an off putting smell but overall with the comfort of air conditioning and the clean decor it was great. Overall 4/5 but more for service and atmosphere as food level was found to be lacking. Maybe I should try white sauce and hope it gets better instead.

Wanton mee is value for money and very flavourful. The char siew is those charred type. Recommend the normal and black. Note that even less spicy option can be quite spicy.

One of the best wanton mee I have tried in JB! Noodles are cooked perfectly with an al dente bite and coated thoroughly with pork lard, making every bite delectable! Dumplings were plump and filled with ingredients, which complemented the flavourful soup. Could taste the fragrant minced pork and radish incorporated into each dumpling, pairing well with each spoonful of noodles! Char Siew was slightly dry but was pleasantly surprised that they gave me a heap despite just adding on RM2 Priced reasonably at RM16 for a large bowl of dumpling wanton mee + char siew, would always be my go to while in JB!

Tried their all in one noodle. Got soup wantons, fried wantons, fried dumplings and charsiew topping with a touch of lard. Noodles texture was great, more al dente than the softer version from other stalls. Fried dumplings filling was good. The char siew, and wantons was normal. Sauce was slightly above average Their signature teh was very average. Service was pretty decent. Stall front air-conditioned and clean. Overall would come again!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outstanding Service Attitude! I don’t usually write reviews, but the team at this wanton mee restaurant truly deserves special mention. From the moment I stepped in, I was met with attentive service, and an impressively proactive attitude that elevated the entire dining experience. The staff demonstrated genuine hospitality — checking in politely without being intrusive, offering thoughtful recommendations, and even ensuring my order was tailored to my preferences. They remained composed, courteous, and focused on delivering excellent service to me and my partner. It’s rare to find such a high level of professionalism and passion in a casual dining setting, and I sincerely commend the team for going above and beyond. A fantastic example of how great service can turn a good meal into a memorable one. Keep up the remarkable work — I’ll be recommending this place to my network without hesitation!
